Are you ready Orange County, because brights are back for the next two seasons and NEON is at the forefront.

Coming off a more drab Fall/Winter color palette, it can take a fashion forward mind to know how to incorporate just the right amount of neon and avoid looking nuclear. But, it can be pulled off successfully as long as you keep some rules in mind; like using electric pops of color with discretion. It’s certainly not a good idea to try to wear neon head to toe, or wear multiple colors of neon all at once. The goal is to look current and fashionable without appearing like you are wearing an 80s-themed costume.

In other words, use neon in small doses. Maybe add a purse, belt, scarf or shoe to an otherwise neutral outfit for a fresh splash of color, and keep the neon pieces simple, in clean lines and a fitted silhouette. Although this trend might not be for everyone, it can be brilliantly pulled off to look very classic and lady like. Take a look at my website for some Bright Ideas on Neon.

Forget the old adage that you can't wear white after Labor Day and brighten up those classic winter pieces like black, navy and grey clothes you already have hanging in your closet, and consider the chicest color of the season - Winter White.

Here are a list of rules to help you conquer white in the most stylish ways...

1. Dress for the season. I'm not too keen on people showing too much skin in winter or overdoing the layers in summer. If you're going to wear a white dress in winter, pair it with opaque black tights and heels or boots, or a dark cardigan on top, or even leggings underneath. No tank tops or sundresses allowed.

2. Mind your texture. A rich fabric makes all the difference when you're wearing winter white. Cashmere, wool, tweed, cable knit, angora, even denim and corduroy all have a depth of texture that make them total Do's for winter white. They're cozy enough that you'll look pulled together, while light summer fabrics like cotton, linen, or chiffon make you look terribly out of place in the chilly winter months.

3. Go one shade off. Pure white (I'm talking lily, wedding dress, white-out white) is best left to a time when you've got a tan. Choose a color that's slightly off-white, in the cream, ivory, or the ecru family for maximum winter white effect. Still feeling self-conscious in such a light color? Give it some weight with a chocolate brown boot or a dark leather accessory, so people know you're aware of what season it is.

"No white after Labor Day" is about as current a rule as "women have to stay home and take care of the house and children." Things are thankfully a bit more flexible these days, so don't be afraid to have fun with seasonal dressing.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is an organization that provides advocacy and a voice for foster children, many of whom cannot speak up for themselves. They provide training for community volunteers who wish to serve as advocates and mentors for severely abused, abandoned and neglected children.

On Nov. 10, CASA of Orange County and leading women’s multi-brand retailer INTERMIX, joined forces for a fashionable evening hosted by designer Andrea Lieberman of A.L.C. Guests were styled in the “must-haves” from her Fall collection while they sipped champagne and noshed on bites provided by Charlie Palmer. A portion of net sales generated that evening went towards the training of volunteers that will serve children in OC foster care.

CASA’s most prestigious and lucrative fundraiser coming up on Dec. 2 is the CASA Holiday Luncheon at the Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel. This event will host a fabulous fashion show by INTERMIX which will feature designs by Missoni, Proenza Schouler, See by Chloe, Halston Heritage, Diane von Furstenberg, Mulberry, Thakoon and many more. The Luncheon will also include guest speaker and singer/songwriter Kevin Montgomery; a musician who toured 50 States in 50 Days to bring awareness to the plight of teens that are aging out of foster care in America. Could a fur sales ban be coming soon to Orange County?

West Hollywood has long been known for its animal-friendly laws. It bans declawing of pets and formally recognizes them as "companions" while their owners are "guardians." So on Tuesday November 8th, it was hardly surprising that West Hollywood's City council approved a controversial ban on the sale of items with even a hint of fur in their composition.

The ordinance bans the sale of "any item of personal attire, clothing or garment, which consists of, or is composed in whole or in part from, the pelt or skin of any animal with its hair, wool or fur, including, but not limited to: fox, mink, rabbit, bear, seal or chinchilla."

The new law will go into effect as early as 2013 and will prohibit the sale of NEW fur items in boutiques, including high profile ones like John Varvatos, Marc Jacobs, Balenciaga and Oscar De La Renta. The ban isn't restricting all retailers who sell fur -- secondhand and non-profit thrift store fur-related items will still be available for sale.

Opponents predicted dire consequences for local retailers. They said nearly half of the 200 apparel stores in town sell at least some fur items, and that merchandise made with animal pelts is estimated to account for up to $2 million in revenues for those businesses each year.

The chicest pieces to wear this season are Southwest-inspired and they’re not your run-of-the-mill cowboy shirts with tooled-leather belts. This Fall, it's all about high-contrast Navajo patterns and richly intricate textures; take a cue from the runways of Proenza Schouler and Isabel Marant. Designers traded in their usual plaid, denim and studs this year for more luxurious fabrications like satin, leather and suede. While they still show touches of turquoise, feathers and fringe, these materials feel less casual country than in recent seasons; they’re more reminiscent of the textures seen in stark photographs by artist Georgia O’Keefe of Santa Fe landscapes. Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Launch of B Brian Atwood and what an amazing event it was. Put on by Michelle Dalton Tyree, uber fabulous editor of Fashion Trends Daily and Saks 5th Avenue. The night was filled with champagne, canapes, photo flip books and of course trying on and buying a lot of Shoes. New to the diffusion arena, Atwoods collection is filled with stunning pieces of fringe and sparkle, cut outs and zipper back knee high boots, jewel tones and leopard; but what's really great are the amazing price points. The 4^th annual Style Week Orange County returned to Irvine Spectrum and their newest location Fashion Island last week, neither disappointed. The Irvine Company’s weeklong event featured: designer appearances, fashion shows, in-store events and a fabulous food festival.

OC’s biggest week in fashion aims to highlight emerging designers, notable style makers as well a hot local brands. Two of America’s top designers; David Meister and Rachel Roy were among the heavy hitters in attendance showing their latest collections. Project Runway’s Alum Nick Verreos, TV personality Mario Lopez, Celebrity Chef Jamie Gwen and my friend Stylist Taylor Jacobson also made appearances.

After several events at both locations I was most excited to see Rachel Roy’s Fall 2011 show which was followed by a meet and greet where I got to sit down with the Council of Fashion Designers (CFDA) inductee for an intimate conversation. Roy’s Fall 2011 collection was a beautiful lesson in eclectic layering and styling. Cashmere blazers, vests, necktie blouses, wrap dresses, tweed skirts and carrot pants in jewel tones, floral prints, and stripes gave both the bohemians and the ladies who lunch something to go on about. I also adored the the Heidi braids the models wore in their hair which I think complimented the collection nicely. Known for her feminine and sophisticated pieces it’s no wonder why she calls confident and effortlessly elegant women like First Lady Michelle Obama and actresses Hale Berry, Kate Hudson and Gwyneth Paltrow as her clients. Oprah Winfrey once touted that Roy would be “the next big name in fashion.” Guess she was right . . . . .

There's a wild side to fall clothing and accessories. On the runway, it showed up in fur (real and faux) attached to jackets, boots, clutches and even sunglasses; high end to mass market, snakeskin and animal prints adorn bags, shoes, dresses, belts and scarves. Even denim is getting a dose of the exotic, with leopard-spotted, python-printed and cheetah-stamped graphics . Personally I like my animal prints over the top, but if subtle is what you're looking for I suggest adding animal to your accessories.

How can one decade have so many styles? 1970s had so many trends that there was one for everyone to grab on to. When it came to skirt lengths you could wear any length and still be fashionable and up to date. One day you could show off your gams and the next be totally covered up. There were 3 main hem lengths to choose from; the mini, the midi, and the maxi; here are the differences between them.

The Mini - The mini carried over from the 1960s when it was the skirt length of choice and continued it popularity. The 1970s also followed the lines of the mini into hot pant and tunics which were equally as popular and equally as leg baring.

The Midi - An intentional affront to the mini skirt, the midi comes to the calf and covers the knees and thighs. Though at the time it was acceptable as a fashion statement, we now know that the midi length is not a particularly flattering length on most body types.

The Maxi - The maxi is the ultimate length skirt, reaching all the way down to the ankles. Some say it was feminism that gave rise to the extra long maxi, other say it was an improving economy, either way, the maxi made a fashion statement.
